Our Mission & Vision

The Assist Foundation is built on the belief that safety and dignity are rights โ€” not privileges. We combine white-glove service, QuickTask logistics technology, and Helper24 professional supplies to deliver real help to the people who need it most.

We serve veterans who gave so much for this country, disabled individuals who need hands-on assistance, the visually impaired, and elderly residents who qualify through financial need. Every mission is vetted, dispatched, and executed with professional precision.

Through our Neighbors in Need program, we also provide interest-free emergency bill loans โ€” when funding allows โ€” to help families keep their lights on and water running.

Neighbors in Need
Bill Assistance Program

The Neighbors in Need program provides interest-free emergency loans up to $200 to help Sioux Falls residents pay essential utility bills. We pay your provider directly โ€” you never handle the funds.

This is a loan โ€” not a grant. When you are able to repay any amount, those funds go right back into the pool to help the next family. There is no interest, no penalty, and no fixed deadline.

โš ๏ธ Funding-Based Program
We can only help when we have funds available. The number of families we assist each month depends entirely on donations received. When funding runs out, the program pauses until new donations arrive. The more you give, the more families we can help.
๐Ÿ“Š How Monthly Funding Works

Our capacity changes month to month based on donations. Here is what that looks like:

Low Funding Month (e.g. January) ~5 Families
Average Funding Month ~15 Families
Strong Donation Month 30+ Families

Donate to Neighbors in Need to increase our monthly capacity.

How to Apply โ€” Step by Step

  1. 1 Call our Sioux Falls office to set an appointment
  2. 2 Visit our office in person on your appointment date
  3. 3 Bring your original physical bill (not a copy or screenshot)
  4. 4 We verify your need and check available funding
  5. 5 We pay your utility provider directly โ€” same or next day
  6. 6 You sign an interest-free loan agreement
  7. 7 Repay any amount when you are able โ€” no rush, no interest
Eligible Bills:
Electric / Power ยท Water & Sewer ยท Natural Gas / Heating ยท Essential minimum living expenses (as approved)
โš ๏ธ Assistance is available only when program funding is on hand. If we have no funding for a given month, we cannot assist anyone until new donations are received. No exceptions. Appointments required.

Who Qualifies for Free Services

Our services are reserved for those who truly need them. All applicants must submit documentation. We vet every recipient โ€” not to create barriers, but to ensure every dollar reaches the right person.

๐ŸŽ–๏ธ Veterans

Must provide official documentation proving military service. We honor your sacrifice โ€” and verification protects program integrity.

  • DD-214 Discharge Certificate
  • VA ID Card or VA Health Card
  • Military service records or orders
  • Other official proof of honorable service
โ™ฟ Disabled Individuals

Must provide official documentation of a qualifying disability that limits ability to perform the requested service independently.

  • SSDI / SSI award or benefit letter
  • Doctor's statement or medical records
  • State disability ID or placard documentation
  • Workers' comp disability award letter
๐Ÿ‘ Visually Impaired / Blind

Must provide documentation of legal blindness or visual impairment from a licensed ophthalmologist or recognized authority.

  • Ophthalmologist diagnosis letter or records
  • State-issued blind ID or documentation
  • Social Security visual impairment determination
  • National Federation of the Blind enrollment
๐Ÿ‘ด Elderly (65+) โ€” Income Verified

Not all elderly individuals need assistance โ€” some are financially secure. We serve those who demonstrate genuine financial need.

  • Medicare or Medicaid enrollment card
  • Social Security benefit statement
  • SSI, food stamps, or low-income verification
  • Government benefit enrollment letter
โš ๏ธ A Vetting Process Protects Everyone

The Assist Foundation operates with limited resources. Some veterans have financial security. Some elderly individuals have wealth. Some people may misrepresent their situation. Our vetting process exists to protect those who truly have no other option. Documentation is required. All submitted records are kept strictly confidential and used only for eligibility verification.

Impact Videos & Testimonials

When we serve someone, we capture that moment โ€” with their permission. These videos are shared on our YouTube, Facebook, and social media so our donors can see the real impact their giving creates. Every video is a real neighbor, a real story, a real life changed.
